Great Bardfield Youth Club, known affectionately as GBYC, was resurrected on 11 January 2008. We meet from 7.00pm until 9.00pm on Friday evenings in the old pavilion on the playing fields just off Bendlowes Road.

We have a range of activities available every week, depending on weather conditions and these include pool, table tennis, tuck shop, football, computer games, rounders, cricket, tennis and badminton. We supplement these with themed evenings such as cinema, crafts and a variety of parties. Hot food is usually available including toasted sandwiches, hot dogs, hot chocolate and chips.

We are fully affiliated to the Essex Boys & Girls Clubs (EBGC) who occasionally bring activities such as archery and shooting down to the Club on Friday evenings. Added to this we arrange days and weekends away at EBGC events, often at Stubbers outdoor activity centre in Upminster. We also apply for grants to ensure that when we arrange days out such to London Zoo, all children are able to attend regardless of their parent’s ability to pay.

The club caters for Year 7 – Year 11 children i.e. 11 to 16 year olds, although new members are welcomed from the final term of Year 6. The first visit to GBYC is free and 50p weekly after that which is half of what most other clubs charge. We are fully insured with public indemnity insurance of £5M.

Our supervisors are all voluntary and all have CRB checks or are in the process. Many of our supervisors are trained in First Aid. We try to have at least three supervisors, male and female, overseeing Friday nights. We are always looking for new supervisors who need only give two hours assistance every two to three weeks.
